The Fence Calculator
Our flagship tool, the Fence Calculator, estimates the materials needed for a fence project based on your dimensions and preferences. Enter your fence length, height, type, post spacing, and gate options to get:
- Fence panels (or chain link fabric rolls) needed, including waste allowance
- Post count broken down by role — end posts, corner posts, line posts, and gate posts
- Concrete bags based on post hole volume and bag yield
- Fasteners or tie wires based on fence type
- Estimated material cost using live retailer prices when available
The calculator supports privacy, wood, picket, vinyl, metal, and chain link fence types, each with type-specific estimating rules for post spacing, panel width, and fastener counts.

Pricing Transparency
Material prices shown in the calculator are retrieved from retailer APIs or market estimates and cached for performance. When a live retailer price is available, it is used directly. When no exact product price is available, the calculator falls back to market estimates or default planning prices. The price source is always displayed so you know where each number comes from.
